5 Beautiful Beach Spots In And Around London

The sun’s finally out and shining, and that can only mean one thing… It’s beach time! Whether you want to explore sandy beaches near London, or head to one of the city’s urban beach bars for a party in paradise, there’s so many beautiful destinations to visit this summer. To make sure you get your sun, sand and sea fix, here are a few beaches and beach-style venues to check out.

1. Herne Bay, Kent

Boasting a large pier with rides, a historical clocktower and a sprawling country park, Herne Bay is a wonderful beach to visit during the summer months. The pebble beach offers your typical British beach affair. Laze around on a deckchair, hop into a fish and chips shop, or try your luck on the 2p machines in the local arcades.

2. Whitstable, Kent

On a lovely summer's day, head to Whitstable for a chilled out day by the coast. Known for their amazing Oysters (that've been harvested in the town since Roman times) and thriving arts scene, this bohemian beach town is filled with plenty of fab things to see and do. Explore the glorious Whitstable Castle and Gardens, or delight in a fresh plate of seafood by the shore.

3. Limin’ Beach Club, Gabriel’s Wharf

Open 7 days a week, this tropical paradise awaits Londoners wanting to enjoy sun, sand and a delicious cocktail or two. Not only does Limin' Beach Club sell amazing drinks (like alcoholic slushies), but they also offer incredible Caribbean food too. Immerse yourself in this sandy oasis by tucking into seasoned plantain balls or tangy citrus slaw - the ultimate urban beach experience!

4. The Beach Bar at the Montague, Bloomsbury

Every year, The Montague on the Gardens open their stunning, pop up beach bar. Whisking visitors away to the shore of the Bahamas, this dreamy bar features a thatched roof in the style of a beach hut, as well as tropical palm trees. Cool down by ordering a classic Piña Colada from their tasty cocktail menu and watch the palm trees sway.

5. Ernie’s Beach, Gabriel’s Wharf

Facing Gabriel's Wharf on South bank, there's a small foreshore covered in sand named Ernie's Beach. Named after John Hearn MBE (Ernie is his nickname) for his expertise on the river, this beachy spot is a lovely place to gaze at the River Thames from. On top of that, the Limin' Beach Club is right nearby, so you can even make a whole day out of your visit.
