What’s On This Weekend: 28th - 29th January 2023

This week may have seen the return of London’s reallyyy cold weather, but that doesn’t mean we can’t head out and enjoy ourselves! Some brave Londoners may want to wrap up warm and check out Canary Wharf’s Winter Lights Festival, while others may prefer to run and hide indoors to feast on Ruben’s Reuben's new BBQ menu or The Jazz Kitchen’s bottomless chicken wings. Whatever you’re feeling, we’re here to help you track down all that’s happening in the big city. Here’s our lowdown on the best events in London this weekend:

1. Experience Ruben's Reubens x Seed Library

From Jan 25th, head down to the stylish Seed Library and enjoy delicious food from Ruben's Reubens. The South London brand cooks up barbecued meat and veggies possessing a rich and smoky flavour - perfect for some late night indulgence! After looking at their menu, we’re intrigued by the smoked chicken nuggets with Brixton BBQ sauce, rooster potatoes, and the salt beef brisket spring rolls. If you give the new menu a go, be sure to let us know what you think.

This Ruben’s Reubens menu is located in lively Shoreditch. If you’re interested in more cool venues in that area, make sure you check out our dedicated Shoreditch Nightlife guide!

This month sees the return of VAULT Festival, an entertainment extravaganza featuring London's finest comedy, theatre, and music acts. Their programme is made up of over 500 shows, making this one of the most diverse festivals in the city. Two highlights from this weekend include Chronic Insanity, an interactive show where a group attempts to contact civilization after a plane crash and Bloody Mary Live, a theatre show following Queen Mary Tudor during her teen years.

3. Canary Wharf Winter Lights Festival

If you miss London's Christmas lights, you're in luck. The Winter Lights Festival recently returned to Canary Wharf this month and showcases over 20 light installations by global artists. This is a fabulous opportunity to wrap up warm, grab a hot drink, and take some stunning photos in front of the glorious light displays. Installations we currently adore include Out of the Dark, a breathtaking example of moving colours and Permafrost – Sleeping Giants, depicting a series of giant mammoths.

Since London is super chilly right now, make sure you keep yourself warm while exploring these pretty city lights! One way to do that is by grabbing a winter warmer from one of London’s best food and drink venues. Read our Winter Warmers Guide for spots selling toasty treats.

Naturally, the weekend is the ideal time to drop by and spend some time exploring the new space.
